Live Baccarat vs. Traditional Baccarat

In terms of rules and gameplay, live casino baccarat and traditional baccarat are very similar. In both cases, you bet on the outcomes of a fast-paced card game based on chance. (If you prefer more skills-based gaming, Jackpot City has a wide selection of blackjack games with live dealers).

When it comes to the gaming experience, however, there are some key differences. To play traditional baccarat, you have to travel to a physical casino, but live dealer baccarat is available anywhere, any time. Play on your couch at home or anywhere else – the choice is yours. Games are fully optimised for mobile use, so you can use your mobile device of choice to play live baccarat online and on the go.

Easy of play is another plus, thanks to an intuitive gaming interface packed with features you won’t find at a physical casino – features like multiple camera views, rich statistics, and no-commission Banker bets. There’s also a greater variety of games to choose from, including Speed Baccarat and Dragon Tiger.

Popular Live Baccarat Games

Here are some popular live dealer baccarat variants at Jackpot City:

Baccarat 1:

A live dealer version of traditional baccarat, Baccarat 1 invites you make Player, Banker, or Tie bets. Win a payout if the hand you bet on is closest to 9 in value once all the cards are dealt. To avoid paying commission on Banker bets, select No Commission mode. Side bets include Pair Bets, Super 6, and a Player / Banker Bonus side bet – the more points your hand wins by, the bigger the payout.

Speed Baccarat 1:

Speed Baccarat is similar to Baccarat 1 but each round takes less time, so you can play more hands.

Dragon Tiger:

A simplified version of traditional baccarat, Dragon Tiger is played with just two cards – the Dragon and the Tiger. Bet on which card will have the highest value or put your money on a tie.

  • Baccarat: Meaning “zero” in Italian, baccarat is both the name of the game and a zero-value hand.
  • Banker Bet: When you bet that the Banker Hand will win.
  • Bankroll: The money you have set aside to play baccarat with. Always play responsibly.
  • Commission: Winning banker bets are subject to a 5% commission.
  • Coup: A round of baccarat.
  • Dealer: The person who runs the game and deals the cards.
  • Dragon 7 Bet: A side bet that pays 40:1 if the Banker beats the Player with a three-card total of 7.
  • Face Cards: A jack, queen, or king. These cards are worth 0 in baccarat.
  • House Edge: The casino’s mathematical advantage over the player. Baccarat has a very low house edge.
  • La Grande: Also known as “the Big One”, this is a natural 9, the best hand in baccarat.
  • La Petite: Also known as “the Little One”, this is a natural 8, the second-best hand in baccarat.
  • Natural: When the first two cards dealt are worth 8 or 9.
  • Player Bet: When you bet that the Player Hand will win.
  • Panda 8 Bet: A side bet that pays 25:1 if the Player Hand beats the Banker Hand with a three-card total of 8.
  • Punto Banco: Developed in Argentina in the 1940s, this is the most popular form of baccarat. In most cases, when a casino offers baccarat, it is offering Punto Banco.
  • Push: This is a tie, when the Banker and Player have the same total. The bet is held over until the next round.

How to Play Live Baccarat

Live baccarat is a card-based game of chance where players place real money Banker, Player and Tie bets. Follow this step-by-step guide to play live baccarat online at Jackpot City:

  1. Sign up for an account at Jackpot City and deposit some funds to play with.
  2. Click on “Live Casino” in the lobby and select your favourite live baccarat game.
  3. Set your betting level and place your bet during the betting period. Betting options are Player, Banker, and Tie. Side bets can be placed at the same time.
  4. When the betting period is over, the dealer deals two cards alternately to the Banker and Player hands and announces the hand totals. According to the baccarat scoring system, aces score 1 point, cards marked 2-9 score face value, and 10s and face cards score 0. The first digit is dropped from a total of 10 or more (eg 15 becomes 1).
  5. If the Player or Banker scores 8 or 9, it’s a natural and the game is over. Otherwise, Player and Banker hand may draw a third card according to baccarat drawing rules. Finally, the dealer announces the winning card.
  6. Bets are paid out and a new round of live baccarat begins. You can play again or leave the table, as you please. Any winnings will reflect directly in your casino account.

Bet Types

There are three main bets in baccarat:

  • Banker Bet: Bet that the Banker Hand will beat the Player Hand. Payout: 1:1.
  • Player Bet: Bet that the Player Hand will beat the Banker Hand. Payout: 1:1.
  • Tie Bet: Bet that the Player and Banker Hand will be equal in value.

Many baccarat variants also have side bets, but these don’t affect the outcome of the game.

Card Values

Card values are as follows:

  • Aces are worth 1
  • Cards numbered 2-9 are worth face value
  • 10-cards and face cards are worth zero (0).

If a hand value is 10 or more, the first digit is dropped (eg. 11 becomes 1, 14 becomes 4, and so on).

Successful bets win real money payouts according to the baccarat odds in play.

Do I need a webcam to play online baccarat with live dealers?

No, you don’t need a webcam to play baccarat in a live casino. All you need is an internet connection, because live casino video games stream in one direction only. Are live baccarat games rigged?

On the contrary, live baccarat is completely safe and fair, the same as all online casino games at Jackpot City. The cards are shuffled automatically, and the dealer deals the cards out in plain view. In addition, the gaming equipment is thoroughly checked by third-party agencies, as stipulated by Jackpot City’s license from iGaming Ontario.

Is live baccarat available 24/7?

Yes, live casino dealers work in shifts around the clock. As a result, you can play live baccarat online at any time that suits you, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
